What
are the advantages of zirconia crowns?
Zirconia
crowns have a translucent appearance, which means that they are indistinguishable
from your own teeth. They create a more natural appearance since they harmonize
with gums. Zirconia crowns combine aesthetics and stability, which makes them
favorable.
What
are the advantages of zirconia crowns compared to metal ceramic crowns?
- Zirconia
crowns have a natural appearance since it’s translucent; and this is
important in front teeth where aesthetics is key. Metal ceramic crowns do
not give a desirable result in this sense.
- In
zirconia crowns we use mechanical and chemical adhesives called dual
cement. This method increases retention and prevents teeth from
breaking.
- Nickel,
which causes allergic reactions in some patients, is used in metal ceramic
porcelains. In zirconia, the materials used are compatible with the
intraoral tissues.
- In
metal ceramic porcelains, a dark colored line appears on the tooth-gum
border. Such a line does not form in zirconia crowns.
- Metal
ceramic crowns can create a bad image in case of gum recession. This does
not happen with zirconia crowns.
